Astrocartography: where in the world your sky grows stronger

Astrocartography projects your birth chart onto the world map. It shows the lines where each planet was rising, culminating, setting or at its lowest point when you were born, and what those places may awaken in you.

What astrocartography is

At the moment you were born, each planet was rising on the horizon of some place on Earth, culminating in the sky of another, setting in yet another. If we join all those places, we get lines across the world map. Astrocartography reads those lines as zones where each planet's theme becomes more present in your life.

The four lines of each planet

LineWhere the planet wasWhat it tends to activate
AC (Ascendant)Rising on the horizonIdentity, how you present yourself and start things.
MC (Midheaven)At the highest point of the skyCareer, reputation, public life.
DC (Descendant)Setting on the horizonRelationships, encounters, partners.
IC (Imum Coeli)At the lowest pointHome, family, a sense of belonging.

Combine the line with the planet and you get the theme: a Venus line on the Descendant speaks of relationships and harmony; a Saturn line on the Midheaven, of responsibility and building a career; a Jupiter line on the Ascendant, of personal expansion.

What it is for

  • Choosing places to live, study or work.
  • Understanding why certain places made you feel so good, or so challenged.
  • Planning trips with an intention: rest, relationships, career.
No place is "good" or "bad" in absolute terms. Demanding lines can be the ones that make you grow most; easy ones can be great for holidays and less stimulating to live in.

Frequently asked questions

Does astrocartography need the exact birth time?

Yes. The lines shift about one degree of longitude for every four minutes of difference in time. A wrong time can move the places considerably.

How far from a line is the effect felt?

In practice, lines are read as bands: they are usually considered strongest within a few hundred kilometres, fading with distance.

If I move to a difficult line, will it go badly?

Not necessarily. Astrocartography describes themes, not outcomes. A demanding place can be very productive if you know what you are going for.

Is it free?
